Education Space

Accessibility and comfort have been enhanced in three essential teaching and examination rooms on the New Museums Site which will reopen for Easter Term following refurbishment.

Following transfer of ownership of the Titan teaching Rooms from UIS into the pool of centrally managed spaces, work began in July 2022 that has now delivered improved ventilation, a new waiting lobby, enhanced toilet provision, and updated furnishings.

A replacement sliding folding partition between Titan 1 and Titan 2 will enable an increase in the capacity of both rooms and make it easier to use them as separate rooms.  The power to each individual desk in these rooms is retained. Titan 3 now provides an additional refurbished education space..

The rooms, managed by the Programme Board for Education Space, are used as teaching space across a range of subjects including SSRMP (Social Sciences Research Methods Programme), Pathology, MMLL, Biology, Economics and Land Economy. During the Easter term the rooms will be used as dedicated examination space.

Bhaskar Vira, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education at the University of Cambridge and Chair of the Programme Board for Education Space, said: “Exceptional and accessible teaching and learning spaces are vital to our endeavour as a World-class university. The newly refurbished Titan rooms will help us to meet the growing demand for high quality education space at the New Museums Site to support new ways of teaching and learning. ”

The Programme Board for Education Space was set up by the General Board. Its purpose is to bring together colleagues in the Estates Division and Schools, Faculties and Departments to stimulate collaboration across the University. Its goal is to ensure our spaces are used creatively and efficiently and to develop and maintain an education estate that is high-performing and fit for purpose.

The Titan rooms will be available to book from the Easter term. For more information see the room bookings webpage.
