Education Space

The University is seeking feedback on its proposal to build a Shared Facilities Hub on the West Cambridge site. The Shared Facilities Hub would not be linked to a department or faculty, but would instead provide a flexible space for use by all staff, students and academics on the West Cambridge site, as well as local residents.

The proposed three-storey building would contain a variety of spaces for studying, teaching, collaborating, and socialising. The current plans include a cafeteria, a café-bar, a library, lecture and seminar rooms, private study spaces, and a small convenience store.

The Shared Facilities Hub is a key part of the wider vision for West Cambridge as a world-class, well connected research and development environment that benefits Cambridge, the region and the UK. By providing work and leisure amenities for University staff, students, and local residents, the building would help to create an integrated and vibrant campus environment. It would also supply the social and catering infrastructure needed for future developments in West and North West Cambridge. The Shared Facilities Hub Project Board will report to a new West and North West Cambridge Estates Academic Board, made up of academics with an interest in the academic developments on both sites.

The building would be located at the heart of the West Cambridge site, on JJ Thompson Avenue and overlooking the proposed central gardens.
